Description/Blazon
A Gold color and enamel device overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules, on a fess abased dancetté to chief and wavy to base paly of six Or and Sable a bend counterchanged, in chief a bayonet and a pick, handle to chief saltirewise Argent. Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "PRAEVIUS" in Red letters.
Symbolism
The dancetté and wavy partition lines of the fess are symbolic of the mountainous and shore areas of Maryland, in which places most of the companies of the battalion are located. The design on the fess is taken from the Seal of Maryland. The bayonet and pick represent Engineers.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 June 1954.
