Description/Blazon

A Silver color metal and enamel device consisting of a shield blazoned:  Per chevron nebuly Azure and Argent in base a caltrap Gules.  Attached below the shield a triparted Blue and Silver scroll inscribed "THE EYES OF COMMAND" in Silver letters.


Symbolism

Ultramarine blue is the primary color associated with Aviation units.  The caltrap simulates an aircraft and the nebuly alludes to the sky.  The colors red, white and blue are from the North Carolina state flag.


Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 30th Aviation Battalion on 12 October 1965.  It was updated on 6 September 1974.  It was rescinded on 23 February 1980.  The insignia was reinstated and redesignated for the 130th Aviation Regiment with the description updated on 3 November 1987.
