Description

A gold color metal and enamel device overall consisting of a scarlet mountain peak charged with a gold Philippine sun above a gold spade and pickax crossed saltirewise, in base four wavy bars alternating white and blue, all above a gold scroll inscribed “PLAN BUILD AND DEFEND” in black letters.

Symbolism

The Philippine sun represents the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation award.  The spade and pickax allude to the unit’s two battle honors in New Guinea and Luzon as the 1060th Engineer Port Construction and Repair Group.  The mountain and the wavy bars symbolize overseas service, and engineering assignments in the islands of the Pacific.  Scarlet and white are colors used by the Corps of Engineer units.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 November 1969.
