Description

A Silver color metal and enamel device consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, on a fess potenté counter-potenté Argent a bar Azure.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Silver scroll inscribed “SAY WHEN” in Blue letters.

Symbolism

Scarlet and white are for Engineers; blue is for Infantry.  The wide white (silver) band and the narrow blue band stand for the two-fold mission of the Battalion, i.e., to support by means of engineer work and to perform infantry combat missions when required.  The term “potenté” signifies a crutch, (i.e., a support).

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 April 1963.  It was rescinded on 23 February 1980.
