Scarlet (Gules) and white (Argent) are the colors of the Corps of Engineers.  The section of the bridge crossing the lightning flash symbolizes the Battalion’s mission to facilitate operations.  The black flash also depicts the effective destructive power of the unit’s demolitions.  The arrows represent the organization’s constitution and first service as an Engineer Combat Battalion.   The motto translates to “We Bridge The Way.”

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 230th Armored Engineer Battalion on 15 September 1955.  It was redesignated for the 230th Engineer Battalion on 4 November 1960.
