A silver color metal and enamel device consisting of two battle-axes with blades up, saltirewise surmounted by a vertical spade with blade down all silver and encircling the lower portion of the device and terminating at the axe blades a red scroll bearing the inscription “READY TO BUILD OR FIGHT” in silver letters.
Scarlet and white are the colors used for Engineers. The spade, a basic engineer tool, refers to the basic mission of the organization. The two battle axes, assault weapons during the Middle Ages, refer to service in Central Europe in World War II and also to the organization’s combat readiness. The spade and axes also allude to the motto, “Ready To Build Or Fight.”
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 October 1968.
