Symbolism
The blue lozenge or diamond symbolizes the attributes of courage, excellence and indestructibility as demonstrated by the Group during World War II and in Vietnam. The gauntlet and sword bear out the motto “Proven In Combat” and attest to the Group’s brilliant combat and direct combat support achievements in that period and particularly in Vietnam, where the 79th Engineer Group has been the “Fighting Group.” The hammer represents construction and with the brick and mortar scheme alludes to the cementing of combat and construction skills.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 6 June 1969.
