Description/Blazon
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned as follows: Gules, a pile fesswise throughout Or, on a quarter Azure an augmented pale Sanguine and bearing in chief a mullet, in base a gopher sejant of the second. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "VIKING VANGUARD" in Black letters.
Symbolism
The shield is red for Artillery; the pile represents a searchlight beam and refers to the antiaircraft operations of the Regiment. The quarter is taken from the coat of arms of the 205th Infantry Regiment, Minnesota Army National Guard, from which organization the 215th Coast Artillery descended.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 215th Coast Artillery Regiment on 9 February 1942. It was redesignated for the 94th Cavalry Regiment on 20 September 1963. The insignia was amended to change the motto on 26 June 1964. It was redesignated for the 94th Armor Regiment on 20 February 1973. It was redesignated for the 94th Cavalry Regiment on 4 September 2008.
